What We Collect and Why

Last updated: October 6, 2026

This policy explains what information Black in Africa (blackinafrica.com) collects, how we use it and the choices you have. The site is part of the Black Travel Network and is run by Hood Box Office LLC ("we", "us").

What we collect: the email address you give us when you sign up for new guides; anything you send us by email or through a form; comments you post publicly on the site, with the name you post under; and usage information, such as the pages you visit, your device and browser type, and your approximate location based on your IP address, collected through cookies.

How we use it: to send the emails you asked for (every email has an unsubscribe link), to answer your messages, to see which pages people read so we can improve the guides, and to keep the site secure, prevent spam and fraud, and meet our legal obligations.

Who We Share It With

We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with the companies that help us run the site, and only as much as they need: Wix.com, which hosts the site and its forms; the email and analytics tools that deliver our emails and measure how the site is used; YouTube, when a page shows an embedded video; and booking partners such as Klook. When you follow one of our links to a partner site, that site can see you came from us, but we don't pass them your name or email. We also share information with authorities when the law requires it, or with a buyer of our business if it is ever sold.

Cookies: the site uses cookies to work, remember your settings and count visits. Embedded videos and partner links may set their own cookies. You can refuse or clear cookies in your browser settings at any time.

Your Choices and How to Reach Us

You can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it or delete it, and you can unsubscribe from emails at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have more rights: California residents can ask to know, correct and delete their information and won't be treated differently for doing so, and people in the EU and UK have rights under the GDPR, including the right to object and to complain to their data protection authority. To make a request, email info@blacktravel.org. We reply within 30 days.

We keep sign-ups and messages only as long as we need them to send what you asked for or to answer you, then delete or anonymize them, except for records the law requires us to keep. We rely on the security built into our platform, including encrypted connections, but no system is perfectly secure. The site is not aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information; if you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it. Our platform stores data in the United States and other countries where its providers operate, and part of our team works outside the United States. If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top.
